SugarHill Steward has invited Anthony Joshua to train with Tyson Fury and himself before his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua invoked his rematch clause instantly with the Ukrainian, with a potential bout expected to be confirmed for either March or April 2022.

The Brit, who relinquished his WBA, WBO, and IBF titles with relative ease at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September, has visited several possible new trainers in  America.

In an interview with an Australian news outlet, Fury surprisingly offered to train Joshua for the rematch to ‘ get him to fight like a big man’.

Joshua admitted himself he would be keen for the idea, provided ‘he takes no money for it’ as he prepares for one of the biggest fights of his life.

And speaking to talkSPORT, trainer Steward insisted getting Joshua and ‘The Gypsy King’ into the ring is something he would not be adverse to at all.

“I mean, you look at the situation here,” Steward told Fight Night. “You have any other sport right; you have basketball, you got football, you got soccer, American football…

“You got guys that are friends or very competitive champions, and you see people now, put together teams. “They’re putting together dream teams or things like that, as far as basketball or football or anything other kind of sport like that.

“These guys are joining up with each other, playing for the same team, to be successful.”

Fury and Joshua were scheduled to fight one another in the summer for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, a fight which fell through due to legal wrangling.

Instead, Fury fought Deontay Wilder for a third time and served up an instant heavyweight classic as he knocked out the American with a devastating right hand to the jaw.

Fury’s more aggressive style in the past two fights has been attributed to the influence of Steward and his lineage from the Kronk Gym in Detroit.

Yet the former police officer insists his relationship with the 33-year-old is almost symbiotic and they complement one another perfectly.

He added: “I got asked the question a lot after the first fight me and Tyson had, when people said ‘Oh Sugar, you changed him, you did this, what a job, masterful’

“And that’s why I keep saying a lot of the time, me and him are so similar. I never once can look at myself and be honest and take all the credit.

“If he doesn’t do what I tell him to do, we’re not even talking about this at all. It’s not even the same thing.

“So for me, I’ve always said it is 50/50 and that is why we are a dynamic duo. It’s not just one person; it takes both of us and we both give credit to each other because we know that, without each other, we both wouldn’t be where we are right now.

“I would still have champions and trained them and whatever and he would still be a champion, but to be on the level we are both on now, it takes both of us

“We both respect each other and we know it is both of us, not just one.”
