Tyson Fury’s dad has openly admitted he is encouraging his world champion son to hang up his boxing gloves after being ‘badly injured’ in his last fight.

October saw the Gypsy King cement his legacy in the history books of heavyweight boxing in his third fight against Deontay Wilder.

Beating Wilder for the second fight in a row following a controversial draw in their first bout, Fury retained the WBC heavyweight belt through an 11th round knock out in Las Vegas.

After the fight, Fury told the media he wasn’t sure if he ‘needed to fight any more’. And while he is currently training brother Tommy for his upcoming fight against Jake Paul, dad John Fury believes returning to the ring to fight should be a no-go for Tyson.

It comes as John said Tyson had to endure a six hour operation after the WIlder fight to correct a ‘badly injured’ elbow.

John said Tyson “had to have [cortisone] injections into both elbows” and has since had ‘bone spurs removed’.

Speaking to BT Sport on Tyson’s future in boxing, dad John said: “He’ll have a good hard-earned rest now and what he wants to do is up to him.

“I said retire, you’ve done enough, he’s won everything, he’s got no more to prove. He’s got millions in the bank, he’s secure for life.

“There’s more to life than getting your brains rattled to please the public.

“He’s his own man, he’ll do what he wants to do. But for me, I’d like to call it a draw now.”
