Anthony Yarde’s trainer Tunde Ajayi has told Anthony Joshua to utilise a ‘roadman mentality’ in order to win the Oleksandr Usyk rematch.

AJ was well beaten by Usyk

AJ was outboxed and beaten on points in the first fight back in September, and has promised a far more aggressive approach if their second bout goes ahead.

Ajayi has experience in this situation as his man Yarde recently won his light-heavyweight rematch with Lyndon Arthur by destructive knockout, having been beaten on points first time around.

“He has to do what Anthony Yarde did,” Ajayi told Dev Sahni on the Unibet Lowdown.

“Anthony Joshua needs to watch Lyndon Arthur vs Anthony Yarde 2 and use that as the blueprint.

“Go in there, use all your physical attributes – your height, your reach, your power, your size, your presence – and just bust him up.

“Sorry for the uncouth language, but that’s how it is. It’s roadman.

“The new slogan is – not the sweet science, it’s the sweet roadman science.”

Yarde avenged his defeat against Arthur by employing more aggressive tactics

When asked to explain this, Ajayi continued: “What it means – the roadman science is the mentality of acting without thinking.

“Which is what many of us from certain environments do. That’s why we end up in prison, on drugs, selling drugs.

“It’s a mentality that someone like myself, who was brought up in a certain environment is trying to encourage people to stay away from.

“We ain’t trying to live that life, we’re trying to be better for our children, for our parents, so that our parents have something to be proud of.

“So that roadman mentality is not quote-unquote a great mentality in most cases.

“But in some cases it can actually be the thing that can save you in a fight.

“Because that, ‘I don’t give a s***, I don’t care about boxing, or using the technical aspect of the sport.’

“When you switch to that roadman mentality – it’s a fight, because that’s what boxing is.

“In its primal essence, it’s a fight

AJ was very aggressive in the early stages of his career, especially when he met his London rival Dillian Whyte

“Sometimes in life you overthink things, you overthink things that are not actually there.

“You go back to watching Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte in the amateurs – there wasn’t much technicality there.

“You go back to watching Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte in the professionals – that was a roadman fight.

“Roadman mentality – that’s the tactics for this [Oleksandr Usyk] fight.

“Win this fight and look good in the next one.”
