Anthony Joshua may soon have his hands full with Oleksandr Usyk in 2022, but there is another monstrous heavyweight with ambitions of getting his hands on him.
Undefeated Chinese heavyweight sensation Zhang Zhilei is flying in his career, most recently recording a stunning second round knockout on the Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr undercard last month.
Standing at 6ft 6ins and clocking a whopping 274lbs on the scales, the 38-year-old moved to 23-0-1 with the 18th knockout of his professional career.
Craig Lewis was unable to withstand the power of his punches after less than six minutes in the ring with the Henan-native and the fight was duly waved off.
A super-heavyweight silver medallist at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Zhang clobbered Lewis with two straight left hands from his southpaw stance and had the 37-year-old on the canvas twice before the finish.
‘Big Bang’ is ranked 13th by the IBF and eighth by the WBO and signed to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, the same promotional company as Joshua.
The two behemoths met at the Olympics in London in 2012, with ‘AJ’ going on to receive the Gold after winning their quarter-final clash on points.
Before his fight on the undercard of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs Anvni Yildirim back in February, the Chinese superstar urged Joshua to fight him in his home city and sell out a capacity crowd.
Reported by FightMag, Zhang said: “I would love to fight AJ in China because of our amateur backgrounds.
“The venue is there, the Bird’s Nest holds 100,000, so we have it all.
“Beijing and Shanghai are the biggest cities, very economically developed and boxing in China is growing.
“The sports fans there like boxing, they like AJ, so if we can make it happen it would be huge for boxing.”
Joshua is set to rematch Usyk in 2022 after losing a points decision to the Ukrainian in September at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
